EHA Directors' College in Dortmund: Let there be laughter!

Oberwesel – A Harmony College setting that resembles a first class chivalric tournament
Just an hour's drive from Frankfurt/Main, nestled in the beautiful Rhine valley, the romantic village of Oberwesel was host to the biggest Harmony College in the history of BinG! Bigger and nobler than ever before, in the shadow of a veritable knight's castle, the participants conspired to deliver an outstanding performance.
Monika and Stephan Hammes and their team did an outstanding job. After many years of diligence, during which time they worked closely with the Bing! Board of Directors to make Harmony College one of the most successful Barbershop training events in the world, they have passed the responsibility on to a new team. They have earned a BinG! Gold Medal! German Barbershoppers and their guests express their heartfelt gratitude.
The newly renovated rooms of the youth hostel, two large rehearsal halls, numerous seminar rooms, a bar in the foyer - what more could we possibly ask for? Waiting in line for coffee and beer was a bit of a nuisance – the staff weren't reckoning with such a huge thirsty onslaught so late in the evening, in spite of the repeated efforts of the preparation team to convince them of the contrary. Nevertheless, the afterglow still lasted until breakfast time...legendary. Then again, there was the view of the Rhine valley while eating breakfast – HC housing was never so regal as from the Schönburg.
One of the most well-known participants, Rasmus Krigström, Lead in the 2012 champion quartet "Ringmasters," had just as much fun participating in the legendary 'Tag Battles' as the enthusiastic BinG! members, the representative of the neighboring association "Holland Harmony," Nelleke Dorrestijn, and the coaches that came from the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Sweden and Holland to once again be a part of BinG!-HC and to work with us. The flair of the "mixed-gender" organization, the musical diversity and the high standard of quality, all within a friendly atmosphere, seems to be unmatched. As is the mixed competition, the "Coesfeld Cup." The fourteen-member team of top-notch coaches and judges from the international Barbershop scene was comprised of six trainers from the USA (Rob Campbell, Rich Knight, Tim Waurick, Dusty Schleier, Chris Peterson, and Rod Sgrignoli), five Canadians (Sharon and Barry Towner, Patrick Brown, Jordan Travis, and Tom Metzger), Camilla Ljung and Jan Alexandersson from Sweden, and Stuart Sides from England. Everything from presentation, singing, music and even details on the 'Groupanizer' organization tool – just about every aspect of Barbershop was taught and intensified.
The Coesfeld Cup has also undergone significant change. The fact that Viertakt won the first German championship in 1993 with a score in the 60s is a clear indication of the impressive journey that BinG! and its groups have undertaken in the last 20 years. The scores of the 21 participants ranged from 61.7% and 74.3%: First place went to Tonikum, followed by Mission Possible with 74.1%, and close behind, Twice as Nice with 73.3%.
The Chorditorium on Saturday and the final concert on Sunday surpassed everyone's expectations. There was a little of everything – classical (Brahms), folksongs, jazz, plenty of Barbershop, the German National Anthem (arranged by David Wright), and even some Alpine yodeling – much to the delight of our North American guests. The performance of the BinG! mixed chorus Heavy Medal, which further revealed their enormous potential, was particularly impressive.
In the Show of the Workshop Choruses, the Men's Chorus, under the direction of Dusty Schleier, delivered a powerful performance. What was then presented by the 130 women in the Women's Chorus, with Jordan Travis and Patrick Brown, was a magnificent sound and fireworks of motion. No wonder that Jordan was effectively smooched to the floor by his ladies … he succumbed to his fate right on stage.
We are already looking forward to the next event in this imposing fortress of good singing, and once again we thank Monika and Stephan Hammes for their many years of diligent support and set our sights on the next 'musical chivalric tournament,' October 2–5, 2014, in the shadow of the Schönburg castle.
